Enrichment Activities

Enrichment opportunities often extend beyond the classroom. As curriculum topics present themselves, field trips are planned. During the year, many classes attend live theater performances, sixth graders participate in a week of outdoor education, and eighth graders experience a week in Yosemite and a class retreat. Other classes explore the Bay Area's wealth of educational opportunities. Children's theater and choir, scouting programs and athletics are included in other school and parish-based enrichment. This year we offer an after school golf program, jewelry making and children's drama.

IES Language Foundation Spanish Program
IES has been teaching foreign languages to children throughout the US since 1982. Classes have 8-15 students and are held one hour per week. Each student receives home reinforcement materials which include curriculum for the entire program. The teachers are usually native speakers and all are bilingual and trained by IES through ongoing seminars. The methodology follows a progressive program of instruction with language acquisition using one word and short sentence responses (one year or more provides progression of fluency).

Joyful Noise
Joyful Noise provides weekly instrumental band music classes. Classes are conducted once weekly on a rotating "pull out" basis and are held for thirty minutes. The instructor provides some instruments for use while some students provide their own equipment. In the spring, a recital is held one evening for family and friends.
