Second Grade

In second grade religion, students continue to learn about Jesus, the Church, and more importantly, they prepare for the sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist. Second Grade places a strong emphasis on core curriculum: reading and math skills. There is a focus on reading to understand, reading fluently and reading for enjoyment. Students work on phonics and spelling rules. Sentence structure, grammar, letter writing, as well as an introduction to topic sentences and paragraph writing are all a part of the language arts curriculum. Math focuses on students learning math facts, adding and subtracting up to triple digits, time, money, fractions and geometry. Simple multiplication is included, too. Social studies and science teach students about the world they live in.
